Effective Management of “People Problem” Issues in Schools
The Administrator Academy is a one-day workshop offered in conjunction with our three-day Masonic Model Student Assistance Program. The Administrator Academy is also offered as a stand alone workshop for Administrators who want more information on student assistance and safe schools.
This workshop deals with the issue of at-risk youth behaviors and the concerns of Administrators, staff, and community. The workshop gives participants a proactive, legally sound, step-by-step comprehensive plan to address today’s “people problems.” We focus on system-wide interventions for alcohol and drug abuse; teen pregnancies; AIDS and STDs; conflict; bullying and gangs; physical and emotional abuse; stress, depression and suicide; death and dying; and weapons in school.
Participants receive time-proven and practical daily strategies which allow teachers to teach and learners to learn.
Topics covered include:
- How to create policies and procedures to deal with high-risk behaviors
- How to create and operate an effective crisis response team
- Administrative guidelines on student at-risk topics
- Confidentiality
- Search and seizure
- Law enforcement and local service agencies
- Parent and school alliances
- Organizing for effective administration
- Media
- Dealing with difficult people
We would like to emphasize that for effectiveness in student assistance, it is vital that the school administrators be committed to MMSAP. This is because the most important single factor in Core Team success, after our thorough training for the Core Team, is Administrator support. Administrators need specific information in two subject areas regarding their Core Team(s): (1) How the Core Team will help the school and, possibly more important; (2) how the Core Team can help the Administrator do his/her job. Administrative leadership and commitment are essential to both Core Team and school success. We suggest that school administrators attend our training geared to their needs before or in conjunction with MMSAP training. We have seen that Student Assistance training can be tremendously effective, and we want to see it make a positive difference for the greatest number of schoolchildren possible.
